The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), outlines a global vision for prosperity, equality, and environmental protection, ensuring no one is left behind. The Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) are key in tracking and sharing progress toward these goals, fostering lessons learned and encouraging collaboration.
VNRs provide an essential platform for transparency through state-led, inclusive, and evidence-based reviews involving all relevant stakeholders. They facilitate the sharing of challenges and successes in SDGs implementation, contributing to accelerating efforts to achieve the goals by 2030.
The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia, or Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK), reviews Indonesia’s 2021 VNR and assesses its alignment with the 2017 and 2019 VNRs. This review highlights consistent government efforts but emphasizes the need for ongoing attention to resource sustainability, data relevance, and follow-up on audit recommendations.
Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) are pivotal in ensuring VNR accuracy, transparency, and accountability, thus strengthening governance and reducing corruption risks. By validating VNR data and providing follow-up on audit findings, SAIs enhance public trust and governance integrity, making SDGs implementation more effective.
As of 2023, BPK is one of the few ASEANSAI members to have conducted a VNR review, thanks to close collaboration with government agencies. This effort has significantly improved SDGs transparency and accountability, underscoring the importance of continued review efforts in the ASEAN region.
The ASEANSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC) fosters collaboration among SAIs. Under the 2024-2025 ASEANSAI work plan, BPK took the lead in the knowledge-sharing initiative, holding a workshop on 29-30 August 2024 featuring insights from international and regional experts to further SDG progress through shared experiences and expertise.
