On December 20, 2024, SAI Vietnam, as the chair of the ASEANSAI Strategic Planning Committee (SPC), held a virtual Strategic Plan Development Kick-Off Session to initiate the formulation of the ASEANSAI Strategic Plan (SP) 2026–2029. This session, which the SAIs member of SPC attended, marked a critical step in preparing a comprehensive strategy to guide ASEANSAI’s direction, culminating in its endorsement at the 8th ASEANSAI Summit in November 2025.

The meeting aimed to discuss the preliminary concepts for the new Strategic Plan, which will serve as a foundation for the ASEANSAI Committees’ Work Plans. Experts from the Swedish National Audit Office (NAO) will also provide support throughout the drafting process, ensuring a robust and inclusive approach. ASEANSAI Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) members actively participated in this session.

Initial Steps and Survey Draft

ASEANSAI SPC has developed a draft survey to assess members’ needs in preparation for the Strategic Plan. The survey aims to evaluate members’ satisfaction with implementing the current Strategic Plan (2022–2025), identify key challenges faced by SAIs and the type of regional support required, and gather feedback on ASEANSAI’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Additionally, it seeks input on the relevance of updating ASEANSAI’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values and determining the need to revise the Monitoring and Evaluation System (MES) to align with the Strategic Plan 2026–2029.

As the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC), SAI Vietnam has proposed strategic goals for the ASEANSAI Strategic Plan 2026–2029, which include strengthening response capabilities, leveraging technology to enhance auditing processes, supporting sustainable development with an emphasis on environmental protection, fostering international cooperation through active engagement in global forums and collaborations, and enhancing training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives to build the capacity of ASEANSAI member SAIs.

Key Agreements

As part of its contribution to the development process, SAI Indonesia was assigned the responsibility of synthesizing comments, finalizing the survey questionnaire, and distributing it to ASEANSAI members for responses. During the session, participants reached a consensus on the general framework for the Strategic Plan, including ASEANSAI’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, Strategic Goals, and Strategic Objectives.

This kick-off session underscores ASEANSAI’s commitment to inclusivity and strategic planning. It paves the way for a forward-looking plan that addresses member SAIs’ needs and strengthens ASEANSAI’s role in promoting good governance, sustainable development, and international collaboration across the region.
