The ASEANSAI Secretariat welcomed a delegation from the Swedish National Audit Office (NAO) in a visit to enhance international cooperation and foster knowledge sharing between the two organizations. The visit focused on finalizing an implementation plan and action steps for Swedish NAO’s support to ASEANSAI during the cooperation period and outlining activities planned for 2025.
The Swedish NAO delegation, consisting of Karin Holmerin, Audit Director, and Anna Jannesson, Senior International Advisor, participated in a hybrid discussion involving ASEANSAI Committees and the Swedish NAO Communications Department. Key topics included strengthening ASEANSAI’s Secretariat and supporting its committees to enhance audit quality, promote knowledge sharing, and build capacity among ASEANSAI member SAIs.
Discussion Highlights and Key Agreements
Swedish NAO’s support will improve the Secretariat’s administrative and operational capabilities, including project management enhancement, developing a communication strategy, mapping development partners, promoting ASEANSAI products, and rebuilding the ASEANSAI website as a comprehensive Knowledge Management System (KMS).
In addition, the Swedish NAO will also assist the Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC) and Training Committee (TC) in initiatives such as transforming the outcomes of the KSC’s public debt workshop into training modules for dissemination to ASEANSAI members.
Furthermore, the Swedish NAO will contribute on the process of drafting the ASEANSAI Strategic Plan 2026–2029 as well as to support the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) in revising the Monitoring and Evaluation System (MES). To oversee the effective implementation of the MoU, a steering committee will be established to regularly evaluate the collaboration.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
The session also introduced the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) to Swedish NAO as a potential partner to enhance future cooperation. IFES previously supported ASEANSAI during the August 2024 Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) Workshop.
MoU Signing and Next Steps
The MoU between Swedish NAO and ASEANSAI, finalized on December 9, 2024, will remain effective until December 31, 2029. This milestone marks a commitment to strengthening cooperation.
This partnership highlights ASEANSAI’s dedication to fostering strategic alliances that promote sustainable development, public sector accountability, and good governance throughout the ASEAN region.
