The ASEANSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC) and the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) successfully organized the Workshop on Environmental Management and Protection in Industrial Clusters and Craft Villages as part of the INTOSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee work plan. This initiative served as a platform for sharing experiences in environmental audits, with the primary objective of enhancing auditors’ capacity to identify opportunities and challenges in implementing environmental audits within industrial clusters and craft villages. The ultimate goal is to generate practical development solutions, share knowledge, and foster collaboration among ASEANSAI member SAIs.

Held over two days, from November 5 to 6, 2024, at the Grand Plaza Hanoi Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, the workshop brought together 37 participants from seven SAIs, representatives from the People’s Committees of Nam Dinh province and Ha Tinh province, and other key stakeholders. Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, Chair of the ASEANSAI KSC, officially opened the workshop. The agenda included presentations, panel discussions, group discussions, and field observations, all aimed at providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of environmental audits, particularly those focused on industrial clusters and craft villages.

The workshop offered participants the opportunity to delve into various aspects of environmental auditing, including:

  • Selecting relevant audit topics.
  • Developing detailed audit plans.
  • Conducting audits effectively.
  • Preparing audit reports.
  • Monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations.

An essential output of the workshop was a summary of best practices and shared knowledge from environmental audits conducted by SAIs from Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Brunei Darussalam. These insights will be valuable resources for developing future ASEANSAI KSC training programs.

Participants explored audit methodologies through presentations, panel discussions, group activities, and field observations. Key focus areas included topic selection, audit planning, reporting, and monitoring the implementation of recommendations. The workshop offered valuable insights into auditing the craft industry, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing collaboration among ASEANSAI members.

This workshop underscores the importance of collaboration among ASEANSAI member SAIs in addressing environmental challenges through audits. By building capacity and fostering partnerships, the ASEANSAI KSC contributes to sustainable development and environmental
